How Leonardo DiCaprio Saved Us

We woke up this morning to the most amazing breakfast ever. Peach french toast, anyone? It was SO good. The Lindsays are total angels. Anyways, breakfast was great until I finished eating. Protein loss (what Lucas calls throwing up) numbers one and two occurred at the metro station before getting on. Protein loss numbers three and four occurred in the Yu Yuan Gardens. My body hates me, clearly.

Needless to say, I felt like poo the entire day. Every smell, every movement, every sight made me nauseous.

I still had some awesome experiences though, despite my innards not cooperating. First this morning, we took a tour of a Shikumen house. These houses are like straight from Mulan. There's a gate and then a courtyard before you get to the actual front door. The man who gave us the tour grew up in the house and everything inside was authentic to the 1940's. It was a wonderful experience to understand Chinese culture.

We made it back to the metro and headed to the Yu Yuan Gardens. It was absolutely beautiful, but I couldn't wait to get out of there. Ugh. Just so sick :(  I started to feel a lot better around 7 when we went to the Pearl Tower. Ya'll have to come to Shanghai at least once in your lives, okay? It's awesome. Anywho, we took a ferry to The Bund and got some amazing pictures of the skyline. Nanjing Road is one of the most famous streets in all of China because of the markets and stores there, and we walked down that way a little before spotting a McDonald's and deciding we were way over starving to death.

When we left Mickey's, we headed to the metro so we could go back to the apartment where we're staying. We saw some of our group there and they said we could actually just walk because it was only thirty minutes or so away. By the way, "we" means me and Kate. So we headed towards the apartment in the pouring rain during a thunderstorm.

That walk was definitely an hour, and we didn't know where we were going.  Alas, we saw a familiar landmark. Leo DiCaprio's huge, gorgeous face on the side of a building. I remembered seeing it the first night when we drove by in our cab. Let me just say, it was easily one of the best nights of my life.We were able to find the apartment all by ourselves in the dark with everything being in a foreign language. Aren't we such adults? We were belting "Set Fire to the Rain"- because it was so appropriate, duh, and this night will be forever engraved in my mind. I love Kate, have I told you guys?

I didn't feel like putting the pictures in order, so here they are, all clumped together at the bottom.

The view from the apartment where we stayed!

Women wear heels EVERYWHERE in China.

Shikumen house.

Yu Yuan Gardens!

I threw up about five minutes before this was taken. You can't even tell, right?!

Oriental Pearl Tower. Trademark of Shanghai!
