My Teaching Assignment and Muslim Monday

Today started off fabulously for the sole fact that I woke up at 7:15 this morning. This is a huge accomplishment, ya'll. Since I've been here, I've only been able to sleep until 4 or 5. Yay normalcy! The kids also moved in today so that's a plus. They are so freakin' adorable. I want to take them all home with me.

After waking up, I skyped with Lucas and my mama for a little before meeting up with the group for Muslim Monday! We've started this tradition that we're going to go to this Muslim restaurant every Monday because it's so delicious that I don't even have words. Cafeteria food really puts things in perspective for us! It's about a 20-25 minute walk to the restaurant. They were so excited to have us there. Everything that I got, my soup, huge plate of food, and a coke, was only 11 kuai. That's a dollar and some change.

On the way to the supermarket, we passed this tiny little pet store. They had baby turtles, bunnies, and some other things that I didn't pay attention to, because as soon as I see bunnies it's basically game over for my attention span. It's so true, ask Lucas. So I see the most precious thing ever. And it is a bunny. Good guess! But seriously.... How can you look at this and not want to cuddle it for hours on end?

We then walked around this humongous building trying to find the entrance to a supermarket for way too long. We couldn't find the entrance because it was the wrong building! Dumb Americans, we are. When we found the correct building, we ventured in and started shopping. I got some Oreos, grapes, swiss rolls, and some juice drinks that I'm slowly but surely getting addicted to. Oh, and bleach. Totally necessary in China.

When we got back to the school, Kate and I were not feeling Chinese cafeteria food for dinner so we had some of my Easy Mac. I miss cheese. There is none in China :( We had a meeting tonight to tell us our teaching schedules! I will be teaching second grade! I'm so excited! I'm also teaching an ELE class which is English Language Enrichment for high school age kids. My schedule is pretty much cake, I teach from 2:15-4:45 every day. We also got our vacation schedules! We're off teaching September 29-October 7, November 3-6 and December 1-4. I can't wait to start planning those! Shanghai is on the agenda for this weekend and it should be a blast! It's close enough that we can make weekend trips out of it and we don't have to use up our long vacation or one of our four day weekends.

Admit it, she's the cutest thing ever.

Yeah, we used pens as chopsticks. Maybe one day you can be as cool as us!

Tomorrow we're cleaning/decorating our classrooms and planning lessons. I can't believe I'm actually about to do this! I'm beyond thrilled to finally meet my kids. After all, I've been waiting for a year and a half!
